Event Description:
CSAW Lecture: Brenden Rensink, "Disrupting Western, Indigenous, and Borderlands Histories," 7 p.m., Nov. 4, Hazlewood Room, Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. In this talk historian Brenden W. Rensink, will draw from his award-winning book, _Native but Foreign: Indigenous Immigrants and Refugees in the North American Borderlands_, to present stories of transnational Native histories that do not fit existing frameworks and understandings. Crossing the US-Canada and US-Mexico borders into the United States, Native populations carved our lives that defied existing definitions of “Indian,” “immigrant,” or “refugee.” Comparing these histories will highlight new ways to interrogate the past, search for untold stories, and reconfigure familiar ones. This event is free and open to the public. Reception to follow. Contact: csaw@wtamu.edu or (806) 651-5238 wtamu.edu/csaw
